About The Author
D S Nelson's introduction to murder came from Agatha Christie. Her inquisitive Miss Marple, of St Mary Mead, and very Belgian Poirot, with his 'little grey cells', captured her imagination from a young age. The intellectual and astute Sherlock Holmes, of Arthur Conan Doyle's detective fiction, is also a clear influence in her writing.
With a passion for cosy murder mysteries, her writing includes cosy crime novelettes, and short stories. She is currently working on the Blake Hetherington series of mystery books, the first of which is 'Hats Off To Murder.'

I'm a huge fan of the movie Clue, and I love Agatha Christie books. I also really enjoy British fiction and detective mysteries, so when I saw this I immediately went to check out the book preview. I really enjoyed the book. It's written from Blake's perspective, and he's such a likable ole "chap"! He is a milliner that just can't seem to stay out of investigations--even thought it seems like there is nothing he'd like better than to avoid them. Well-written, this books moves along at a good pace, and I found it to be very entertaining.Product details

What I Loved
Finding a good mystery series. This book took me back to all those mystery series I loved so much growing up. You eagerly want to figure out the mystery, but you also get wrapped up and invested in the characters. That’s what happened here. Blake Heatherington is a lovable, old-school widower with a nose for trouble even though he tries to avoid it. He had me laughing at his inner dialogue, thinking along with him on how to solve the case, and he never failed to manage to make me want to grab a bite to eat and some tea.
It wasn’t too predictable. When you are a mystery-lover the plots can become predictable. I think that Nelson did a great job of not having the outcome be the obvious.
My vocabulary increased. The best thing about reading British Lit? Learning words like Milliner (hat maker), greengrocer (retail trader in fruits and vegetables), and hatinator (somewhere between a hat and a fascinator), which looks something like this. Fascinating! ;-). I would recommend getting this book on a if you need quick definitions.
The relationship between Blake and Delilah. At first I was a little wierded out thinking there would be something romantic with such a big age gape, but nothing to fear there. Think Alex Cross (Morgan Freeman) and Ashley Judd (Kate McTiernan) in Kiss the Girls. They make up an endearing team.
Afterthoughts
Nelson set scenes really well and I felt transported throughout. I was a little confused at the voodoo descriptions at the beginning of each chapter, and wished they tied in a bit more obviously, but that is a trivial matter. I think that this book (voodoo scenes in particular) would play out really well on the Big Screen, and it’s a mystery series that I will surely be returning to! Hats off to D S Nelson and her delightful sleuthing duo that have captured my attention and heart.
